Workshopburi is a guerilla school of writing. Our ethos is DIY, punk, and community-centric. Our classes are for people whose idea of a good time involves some permutation of reading, writing, & discussing texts*. Or in the words of the late, great David Lynch, party people.

Institutions that teach creative writing are not always accessible to writers. Some of us (me) were steered into more pragmatic educational degrees and paths. Luckily, you can teach yourself. I did. Workshopburi is my offering to artists and art-enthusiasts from the Global South. The syllabus has been cobbled together over years, through studying brilliant writers, looking at art, and poring over craft-books. We do: pop-ups IRL, tailored workshops for fancy institutions, and courses online. If you have an internet connection and can make IST work, you can join us. Depending on where you're at in your writing practice, there is an offering that's right for you. Email workshopburi@gmail.com for enquiries and follow along on Instagram.

Start here. Think of this as Intro to Creative Writing for people who have been writing on and off for years but won't call themselves writers. It's also a great workshop to sharpen your prose, and get really good at saying exactly what you want to say. It's the difference between cliche and your true voice.

This is a generative writing circle. No pre-reading involved. You show up, we read selected excerpts and have a chat, you practice the relevant technique through a writing exercise. Repeat. We all have a great time.

Single session. Prompts are dealer's choice.

IN SESSION: BATCH 4

A COURSE over 6 weekend mornings where we get really comfortable with taking apart different kinds of non-fiction texts and practicing how the best essayists do what they do.

Great for people who work in writing, journalism, communications, or those who enjoy reading longform and want to refine their own skills.

'But I'm not a real writer.'

Can you read? Can you write? Do you enjoy these activities? Will you show up to the sessions and participate? Then this is a very low stakes place to build a writing practice and community.
